Day and night of high drama in Ipswich finals

A CHANGE of fields after a downpour, a goal scoring exhibition, tears and shoot-outs.

The Ipswich hockey senior grand finals that finished in the rain tonight had it all.

Norths wrapped up their third premiership of the weekend when the A-Grade men swamped Hancock Brothers 8-3 in a spectacular display of speed and sharpshooting at Raceview.

Norths' captain Mark Pocock rated it the most complete performance he'd seen from a team he has won nine premierships with.

"We were all just in there (dressing room) in shock really, going what just happened, what did we do out there?'' Pocock said after tonight's incredible game.

Norths earlier won the Reserve Grade title beating rivals Easts 1-0 through a golden goal by scoring ace Zac Profke.

The state under-15 player also scored  in the A-Grade grand final, joining the list of Norths' sharpshooters including Nick Maddocks and Anthony Woodward.

Norths' first grand final success came in the A2 decider on Friday night when the Devils beat Bellbowrie 4-2 in shoot-outs.

The A-Grade women's grand final was played in tough conditions when heavy rain forced a break in play and moved to another field.

Minor premiers Wests finally triumphed 2-1 over the gritty Swifts side, which almost lost its coach.

Reserve Grade player Megan Bool had a quick trip to Ipswich Hospital to have her dislocated right toe corrected before she hobbled back to cheer on her A-Grade troops.

It was a terrific example of team spirit.

Swifts' Reserve Grade captain/coach Kirsty Lenaghan was highly emotional after helping her team hold out Wests to win 3-2.

Swifts had battled early in the season before peaking for the final series.

The opening clash on Ipswich Hockey's grand final day  today was a 3-2 victory by the Vets over Collegians.

The Vets celebrated with a special dance honouring a pledge before the game.

Like the A2 men's clash, the A2 decider needed shoot-outs to find a winner.
