Dashing efforts set up thrilling short-course final

THE $5000 Just Greyhound Photos Dash For Cash (288m) will highlight the 10 race program at Ipswich tomorrow night.

Six heats were run last Saturday night with the Reg Hazelgrove trained Data Base setting the time standard at 16.77, which is 0.05 outside of the track record held by Stealthy Night at 16.72.

Data Base set the quickest early sectional time of 5.90, which is vital in the blink and miss event to be handy to the lead.

Hazelgrove had two other heat winners in Shadow Court (16.92) and Key Factor (17.07).

Data Base and Key Factor are litter brothers (Paw Licking - Mega Dee) whelped in Dec 16, Shadow Court also whelped in Dec 16 (Paw Licking - Whirly Way) all bred and reared by Hazelgrove.

The sire Paw Licking continues to produce very speedy sprinters so the three Hazelgrove runners are well suited to this short course racing.

Other heat winners were Farmor On Fire for Steven Scott (16.87), Aim for Terry Guymer (16.91), and Daisy Dreams for Darren Johnstone (17.03).

Qualifying as fastest seconds were Rapid Expolsion (16.96) for Roan Enright and Arnhem Mayhem (16.97) for Jamie Hosking.

The box draw for the Dash For Cash final (race 8 at 7.35pm): 1 Rapid Explosion (Roan Enright), 2 Farmor On Fire (Steven Scott), 3 Aim (Terry Guymer), 4 Daisy Dreams (Darren Johnstone), 5 Shadow Court (Reg Hazelgrove), 6 Arnhem Mayhem (Jamie Hosking), 7 Data Base (Reg Hazelgrove), 8 Key Factor (Reg Hazelgrove), 9 She's A Sort (Tony Brett), 10 Farmor Heat (Steven Scott).

My selections for the Dash For Cash Final are number 2 Farmor On Fire, 3 Aim, 7 Data Base.

Snowball takes top honour

WITH two meetings left for the year at Ipswich - today and tomorrow - the 2018 Ipswich Premierships will conclude after tomorrow night's meeting.

The 2018 Ipswich Greyhound Of The Year is Snowball Otto trained by Ian Dionysius.

He races today at Ipswich in race 8, from box 6 at 5.04pm.

He has 95 points going into today's race meeting, 13 points ahead of Sail Surfer, who is not engaged at either of the two meetings remaining.

Snowball Otto has had 15 wins at Ipswich for the year and also has started in each month of the year.

The 2018 Owner Of The Year is the Board Racing Synd, managed by Greg Board who sits on 564 points well ahead of Joanne Price with 377 points.

The 2018 Male Trainer Of The Year for the eight straight year is Col Byers, currently on 672 points leading Mal Cuneo on 425 points.

It's been another stellar year for Col, who rearly races his greyhounds away from the Ipswich track.

The 2018 Female Trainer of The Year looks likely to go the way of Kerry Hoggan, Kerry leads with 187 points to Pam Field 169 points.

Kerry has one greyhound engaged today in race 9 box 5 Sienna's Boy and a reserve in race 10 number 9 Cianna's Angel.

She then is trying to make a good thing of the premership by providing four runners tomorrow night - in race 2 box 4 Marvista, race 3 box 5 Hifi Shian, race 4 box 5 Lily's Bean, and race 9 box 2 Invictus Clive.

Pam has three runners engaged over the next two days.

They are today race 8 box 4 Double Oak and tomorrow night race 5 box 7 Richmond Road and race 7 box 4 Cash Trail.

Best bets

TODAY'S Ipswich program is 10 races, starting at 2.57pm.

My best bet is in race 7 at 4.46pm, box 3 hope Spring Wattle for our premiership owner/trainer combination of Board and Byers.

Spring Wattle is going for three on the bounce today in the 5th grade final, coming off a heat win last Friday in 25.38 leading all the way. Spring Wattle is sure to race well again.

Pick up some handy cash

TOMORROW night's on track Pick 7 racebook competition is worth $7925.

Pick the winners of races 4-10 on the card to be in the running to win.

New year twilight meet

IPSWICH will race next Tuesday, New Years Day, with a twilight program starting just prior to 3pm.

Thanks and best wishes

FROM the president George Evans, the committee, management team and members of the Ipswich Greyhound Racing Club, a big thank you for those who have supported the club during 2018. We wish you all a very happy new year.
