St Peter Claver dance students set to dazzle
THOUGH graduation day is fast approaching, Year 12 students Georgia Buchanan and Lowana Walker have another school event on their minds.
The St Peter Claver College seniors have been busily preparing for their school's ninth annual dance concert extravaganza.
The show, which will be held at the Ipswich Civic Centre next week, showcases a variety of dance genres such as hip-hop, musical theatre and jazz.
Both Georgia and Lowana are senior elite dance captains at St Peter Claver and said the show reflected the school's successful dance program.
"The concert requires a lot of participation from the students," Georgia said. "It comes together without too much hassle though, as it's been put on for so many years now."
The Riverview-based college has come to have one of the most successful secondary school dance programs in Queensland.
Its success has been measured not only by impressive Eisteddfod results but also through the program's number of participants - about 200.
Lowana said the dance concert was a lot of fun as students didn't feel the pressure of competition this time.
"They are simply performing on stage for the enjoyment of the experience," she said.
The dance concert will feature students from Year 8 to 12 and will be held on Friday, October 24.
The show starts at 6.30pm. Tickets cost $20 and can be purchased via ipswichciviccentre.com.au.
