Damaging winds, rain and hail likely for parts of SEQ
A severe thunderstorm warning is in place for people in parts of Gympie, Somerset, Scenic Rim, Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast Council Areas.
The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 4:35pm, severe thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar near Rathdowney, Miami and waters off Tweed Heads.
These thunderstorms are moving towards the northeast.
They are forecast to affect Southport, Conondale, Kenilworth and the area west of Conondale by 5:05pm and Numinbah Valley and waters off South Stradbroke Island by 5:35pm.
Damaging winds, heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding and large hailstones are likely.
A more general severe thunderstorm warning is also current for the Southeast Coast and parts of the Wide Bay and Burnett and Darling Downs and Granite Belt districts.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:
Never drive, walk or ride through flood waters. If it's flooded, forget it.
Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
