Crossdale man to to face five charges after siege near Esk

A MAN has been charged with five offences in relation to a dramatic siege at a property at Crossdale, near Esk.

Police were called to the property on Keen Rd about 8.30am Tuesday.

When they arrived, they allegedly located a man armed with a rifle. An emergency situation was declared and an exclusion zone was created before Kal Patrick Carric, 30, fled the property.

Mr Carric shot himself in the head with a .22 calibre rifle, ending the siege about 6pm.

He was taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition but has since been released.

Mr Carric has been charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, serious assault police, threatening violence by discharging a firearm, dangerous conduct with a weapon and failure to possess a licence for ammunition.

He was expected to face the charges in Ipswich Magistrates Court yesterday, however the matter was adjourned for today.

He is being held in custody.
