IT'S a series of heists as daring and sophisticated as anything from Hollywood hit Ocean's Eleven but instead of Las Vegas casinos, the targets are ATMs on Brisbane's northside.

Four brazen bank machine break-ins - one of which failed - are being investigated by a specialist task force, which believes the crimes could be an inside job by a bank employee.

The situation has prompted Suncorp Bank to make changes to its ATMs across Brisbane, with fears the culprits will strike again.

At least two men have targeted four different Suncorp ATMs at small suburban shopping strips since January - and on all but one occasion they got away with massive amounts of cash.

Investigators have been coy on the total amount the gang made off with, but officers estimated last month that the figure could be close to $500,000.
