Cowboys survive Sea Eagles fightback
RUGBY LEAGUE: The North Queensland Cowboys have survived a scare from the underdog Manly Sea Eagles to cement their place in the top four, registering a 30-26 win.
Despite trailing the Cowboys 18-4 at half-time, the Sea Eagles stormed back into the match, taking a 22-18 lead with 20 minutes left.
The reigning NRL premiers’ perfect home record this season looked in danger, but they dug in and tries in quick succession to James Tamou and James Taumalolo – his second for the night – pushed the game out of Manly’s reach.
Both sides crossed for five tries each but the boot of Johnathan Thurston was the difference, slotting each of his five attempts.
It was Manly’s seventh loss in a row.
