Court fines man who leapt into cars' path

A DRUNKEN Aratula man who leapt in front of cars on the Cunningham Hwy has been fined.

David John Munchow, 49, pleaded guilty at the Ipswich Magistrates Court yesterday to public nuisance.

At 3.30pm on Friday, May 31, the police were called to the BP Aratula, where Munchow was reported to be jumping in front of cars on the busy Cunningham Hwy.

He was seen jumping in front of trucks as well as cars.

The vehicles were forced to swerve out of the way to avoid hitting him.

When the police arrived he leapt in front of their car, waving his arms wildly. The police officers then arrested him.

He told the police he had been drinking at the Aratula Hotel, and was walking back to his caravan at the nearby caravan park.

The court heard he had been drinking heavily on the day.

Munchow was fined $350 on the nuisance charge, but the court did not record a conviction.
