Couple allegedly burnt down home for insurance payout

A COUPLE who allegedly burnt down their home and tried to collect the insurance money have appeared in court.

Terrance George McConochie, 61, and Dawn Lee McConochie, 54, appeared briefly on Friday in Ipswich Magistrates Court.

Both were arrested and charged on January 15, 2016 with defrauding Westpac Bank to the value of more than $30,000.

Both were also charged with the arson of a structure or building.

It is alleged the couple torched their home on North Station Rd at North Booval during the early hours of April 6, 2014.

The QT reported at the time the couple were unharmed in the incident.

Their legal representative sought an adjournment on Friday so he could look over the police brief of evidence.

Magistrate Deborah Vasta granted the application and adjourned the matter until March 9.
