Group to guide flood recovery

IPSWICH'S flood fight-back has been given added impetus with the creation of a working group to oversee the rebuilding of flood-damaged roads and council infrastructure.

Mayor Paul Pisasale said the group would be charged with co-ordinating the efficient implementation of the Ipswich Flood Recovery Plan.

“Along with the council's CEO Carl Wulff, City Works chairman Cr Trevor Nardi and Planning and Development chairman Cr Paul Tully, I will be sitting down every week to make sure we are on top of all areas of the recovery,” Cr Pisasale said.

“Human and social, economic and business, infrastructure, environmental and forward planning are being given priority by council.

“More importantly this group can make quick decisions in the best interest of the city. We don't need unnecessary delays or to have rebuilding public infrastructure fall through the cracks.”

He said council officers would work with all government agencies to get businesses, suburbs and streets back to normal as soon as possible.
