Cops swerve to avoid drunk on bike

RIDING a bicycle while drunk has landed a man in court.

A police vehicle had to swerve to avoid colliding with John Maxwell Berg, who was riding the bike down the wrong side of Limestone St, Ipswich, on March 25 at 1.10am.

Berg, 25, was glassy eyed, smelt of liquor and was unsteady on his feet, so was breath tested and blew 0.168.

Berg told Ipswich Magistrates Court he was just heading home and didn't want to wake his wife and child up to collect him.

The court was told Berg was extremely co-operative with police. He pleaded guilty to being in charge of a vehicle other than a motor vehicle while under the influence of liquor and was fined $400.
