Cop king hit during domestic disturbance

A POLICE officer will undergo surgery for injuries sustained while responding to a domestic disturbance at the weekend.

Two officers were called to a Stanthorpe home in the early hours of Saturday morning.

On arrival, police allege one officer was 'king hit' and another punched twice in the face.

One officer deployed a tazer in an effort to detain the 38-year-old man who was then arrested and taken into custody.

A later search of the man's property allegedly uncovered two firearms and a large quantity of ammunition.

The man was transported to the Toowoomba watch house and held in custody facing charges of serious assault of a police officer, obstructing police and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Police applied for a domestic violence order against the alleged offender.

One of the responding officers has since returned to work while another has taken leave for a number of weeks and will undergo surgery as a result of the injuries sustained during the incident.
