Cooper and Olivia top baby names in Ipswich

COOPER and Olivia were Ipswich's most popular names for babies born last year.

According to the State Government registry, the two names were the most commonly used in Ipswich, while Oliver and Charlotte topped the list across the state.

Across Queensland Oliver has been a name on the rise in recent years, beating the ever-popular Cooper, which was the fourth most popular state-wide, to take out first place in the list.

While for girls, Charlotte has moved from second place in 2012 to first last year, after Ruby and Sophie alternated in past years.

Olivia, Ipswich's most popular girls' name, was the seventh most common across Queensland.

Acting Minister for Justice and Attorney-General David Crisafulli said the popularity of names changed depending on where you lived in Queensland.

In the Wide Bay region, Hunter beat Cooper as the top boys' name, while Lachlan and Jack topped the list in Cairns and Fitzroy.

For girls, Mia won over the Gold and Sunshine coasts, while Olivia was first in Ipswich and Ruby reigned in Cairns.
