Bird fanciers love the Spectacular
BIRDS and bird lovers were at home at the Ipswich Bird Spectacular at the Ipswich Showgrounds on Saturday.
Hundreds of people flew through the gates to see some of the birds on show and for sale, as well as the variety of avian products available.
Ipswich Canary Society life member George Martin said the show was one of the highlights of his hobby.
"I've been a member of the canary society since the early 80s," he said.
"These meetings are great; you get to see new and old exhibitors. It's a bit like a reunion in a way.
"But it's a hobby for the family. My kids have grown up now, but when they were younger the help me out no end.
"It's a great thing for the whole family to do."
On the other side of the bird spectacular spectrum, Michelle Mathewson and her family were at the showgrounds selling "Birdie Bunks" for pet birds to sleep inside.
"Shows like this are great for us.
"We're local, but it's the first time we've come to the Ipswich show, we do most of our selling online through Facebook.
"But this is a great way to let people know we're here and show them the products first hand. It's still more of a hobby for us."
The spectacular is the just one of the many bird shows to be held across the region, with the Ipswich Pigeon Show taking place at the end of the month.
