Readers tribute to Lockyer Valley Mayor Steve Jones
RESIDENTS of Ipswich and the Lockyer Valley have been left deeply saddened by the tragic passing of their beloved Mayor, Steve Jones.
Tributes and prayers from the community were shared on the QT Facebook page, describing the contribution Cr Jones, who was also dubbed a legend of the Lockyer Valley, had made to his community
Toni Gibbs wrote she "was very sad to hear of the passing of Lockyer Valley Mayor Steve Jones. He was the heart and soul for many in the region after the devastating floods. Condolences to his family and friends in the community."
Fiona Lehfeldt commented "Steve Jones was a man who could problem solve and take action when others would merely talk about it. Steve will be sorely missed by his family and friends, his Withcott community, the Lockyer Valley and all of Queensland - we have lost a man who made a positive difference to many."
Steven Clark also reflected on Cr Jones's contribution during the 2011 floods.
"RIP mate, you did a wonderful job out there.... for those affected by the 2011 floods, mate, the Lockyer Valley will never forget you," he said.
Mike Paton described Cr Jones as a man who always put the needs of others first by saying "some people get into politics because of self interest and some get involved to help others. Steve proved where he stood and had that tested in an incredible way in 2011. Vale Steve Jones."
Julie Dunkley said Cr Jones was on her mind.
"We are so sad and sorry for the loss of a great man who worked so hard for his community. He was well respected and liked by so many. Steve listened and helped us through tough times. We will be praying for your family as you go through this very difficult time. God bless you all."
Jennifer Lyn Durkin expressed her "heartfelt sympathies to this wonderful man's family. Their lives have been changed in such a terribly short time. The Lockyer Valley was blessed to have him as their mayor. Such a huge loss to so many."
David Bowles said "terrible news. You will be a hard man to replace. May you rest in peace."
