COMMENT: Bring on the cooler nights
WELL, after what seems like a few weeks of days with temperatures in the high-30s, I for one can honestly say I'm ready for this cool change to come.
The last few nights have been horrendously muggy for anyone without a high powered air-conditioner - so much so that you could be forgiven for suffering the effects of sleep deprivation.
More than a few people here in the QT office were - like me - up during the storm on Tuesday night making sure the pets weren't running away in a panic and keeping the rain from coming in through open doors and windows.
After a few mild weeks in late spring, this early summer heatwave has come on like a freight train and taken many of us by complete surprise.
Then again, it's probably wrong to be surprised by heat in our neck of the woods.
One thing we can be certain of is that there will be more storms in the very near future.
The tragic incident involving the US traveller on Mt Warning should serve as a timely reminder to all that you should do what you can to minimise your risk in the face of bad weather.
