Cocktails raise spirits and funds

IN WHAT will be one of the most glamorous events in Ipswich so far this year, the Metro Hotel Ipswich International will hold a gala cocktail fundraiser this week.

Special guests include Shane Webke and Paulini, with all proceeds to be donated to the Ipswich Flood Appeal.

Guest relations manager Fran Edney still has tickets for the event, and said people who phoned and booked now would receive two tickets for the price of one.

“We encourage people to get a group of friends together and party the night away,” she said.

“The price of the ticket includes everything, from a welcome cocktail on arrival to live entertainment, canapes, beer, wine and soft drinks throughout the evening.”

Sporting memorabilia will be auctioned off and includes gear from Dick and Steven Johnson, Rick and Todd Kelly, Mark Skaife, the Parramatta Eels, West Tigers, Penrith Panthers and more.

“We heard some heart-wrenching stories from so many people during the floods,” Ms Edney said.

“Staff were affected, with some losing everything.”

General manager Alex van Kersen said the list of donations for auction on the night continued to grow, with a professional auctioneer hosting the bidding.

“We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of sporting groups and celebrities who donated wonderful sporting memorabilia,” Mr van Kersen said.

“Many local businesses have been coming on board by donating vouchers as lucky door prizes.”

The cocktail function will be held on Wednesday, March 16 from 7.30pm until 10.30pm.

To purchase tickets phone 3812 8077 or email eventsipswich@metrohg.com.
