Coast man threatened with gun in attempted car jacking

A COAST man was threatened with a gun after he was flagged down by a man he thought just wanted a lift.

Police said the attempted car jacking happened about 7.45am today as the victim was driving through Brightwater and a man motioned at him to pull over.

The 23-year-old alleged offender then pulled out a handgun and attempted to steal the car, but the driver manoeuvred away from him.

He remains in custody and will appear in court tomorrow charged with one count each of attempted armed robbery, assaulting police and resisting police.
