Coast drug raids net 9

CANNABIS plants, hydroponic equipment and smoking utensils have been found in eight drug raids on the Sunshine Coast.

Police have charged nine people with drug offences after homes were searched at Pacific Paradise, Marcus Beach, Yandina and Nambour on Thursday.

Information from members of the public played an integral part in the investigations, which led to the search warrants being executed.

Coolum sergeant Ben Cox said 20 cannabis plants, each about 10cm in height, had been discovered growing at a Marcus Beach home.

A bag containing 100g of cannabis was found.

"It does not matter the size of the plant. The charge is the same," Sgt Cox said.

"The four offenders were charged with five charges of possessing dangerous drugs, possess utensils, producing dangerous drug and one count of stealing."

Nambour Criminal Investigation Branch senior constable Jonathan McBride said Yandina brothers aged 21 and 26 had been charged with supplying cannabis.

Police searched five homes at Nambour and Yandina, charging five people with 14 drug-related offences.

A 40-year-old-man has been charged with the unlawful possession of Viagra and he was found with a dismantled hydroponic set-up.

"Public information is part of our ongoing push to reduce drug offences on the Sunshine Coast," Snr Const McBride said.

"Cannabis offences are a common occurrence on the Coast, but you don't see half of them in court because first-time offenders are put through the drug-diversion course."
