1955 Holden FJ stands out at Show 'n' Shine charity cruise
EVEN in a parking lot filled with some of the most beautiful cars in Australia, Danny Gathercole's prized 1955 Holden FJ stands out.
The stunning vehicle was among the hundreds of cars featured at the Monaro Club of Queensland's Show 'n' Shine charity cruise.
Mr Gathercole, 45, said he had spent more than six years restoring his pride and joy, which had been in his family for more than 40 years.
"My parents used to drive me around in it when I was growing up," he said. "I've re-vamped and completely modified the car now...I've entered it in six car shows and it's won a trophy each time."
The charity cruise saw a convoy of more than 200 classic cars driven from Archerfield BP to the Marburg Showgrounds.
At the showgrounds, owners showcased their vehicles and socialised with fellow car enthusiasts.
"I took three of my children along with me this year," Mr Gathercole said. "My eldest drove our 1978 Monaro which we also displayed.
"The event had a great atmosphere and was a wonderful chance for me to catch up with friends and share car stories."
Cruise day organiser Adrian Peacock said the event, now in its second year, brought plenty of people into the Marburg community.
"The cruise element adds something different to the Show 'n' Shine spectacle, which plays a part in its popularity," he said.
"We hope the event continues to grow in the future."
A percentage of the profits from the Show 'n' Shine were donated to Variety children's charity.
