City voters defy swing to coalition

TONY Abbott will be moving into the Lodge this week, but Blair's Labor MP Shayne Neumann won't be packing up his office.

Mr Neumann held onto his seat and actually increased his two-party preferred vote as a highly-anticipated anti-Labor swing failed to materialise in south-east Queensland.

While Labor seats tumbled in southern states, both Mr Neumann and Oxley MP Bernie Ripoll held on for comfortable wins.

Mr Neumann said voters feared an Abbott-led federal government would implement public spending cuts like those carried out by the state LNP administration under Premier Campbell Newman.

"People didn't want more of that," he told The QT.
