LETTERS: Church to honour forgotten hero of First World War
THE United Welsh Church will be holding its annual Remembrance Service at 6.30pm on November 8 and will have the honour of recognizing First World War soldier Percy David Alcorn.
Mr Alcorn enlisted on December 24, 1915. Until then he lived at Blackstone and on enlistment showed his religion as Congregational.
He was wounded in action twice before bravely returning to duty, only to be killed while serving with the 42nd Battalion on September 6, 1918, aged 26.
Pvte Alcorn's name was omitted from the Blackstone Congregational Honour Board at the Welsh Church; however the church aims to rectify this at the upcoming service. All are welcome to attend.
