CHRISTMAS SHUT DOWNS: Art Gallery's holiday hiatus

TWO of the city's major attractions will shut down for the Christmas and New Year period.

Ipswich Art Gallery and Ipswich Civic Centre will close their doors on December 23

Families will be pleased to know that the gallery will reopen 10am on January 3, with the continuation of the TapeScape interactive installation and the Construction Site attraction.

The Ipswich Civic Centre will reopen Monday, January 16.

Council arts spokesman Charlie Pisasale said the closure would clear the way for routine maintenance.

There are some big acts for Ipswich audiences to look forward to in the new year, with legends including John Williamson, Glenn Shorrock and Brian Cadd all locked in.

"This is traditionally a quiet time around town so it's the perfect opportunity for our hard-working staff to get some well-deserved rest and relaxation," Cr Pisasale said.
