Christie pins hopes on worm film

AN INTERVIEW with an earthworm could land Toowoomba film-maker Christie McCabe a trip to the London Olympics.

The Samsung Global Blogger finalist made waves with a 30-second qualifying video which depicted her stretching out her limbs for a high-octane thrash in a kiddie pool.

Her second instalment highlights Crows Nest's Perseverance Cup - a hard-fought battle between racing worms on a 45cm track.

She now needs community support to help her win the competition.

The more hits her video gets, the better her chances of realising her Olympic dream.

If successful, she will be flown to the London Olympics to receive blogging training by celebrity mentors and be seen all over the world as a daily blogger on the Samsung website.

But why worms?

"I am a proud Queenslander and our state is famous for its races - horses, dogs, the trots, as well as cane toads, crayfish, camels… and of course worms," she said.

"When it came to deciding what event to cover for this challenge, it was easy!

"Crows Nesters are proud of their clean, green district and also have a couple of worm farms supplying everyone from gardeners to fishers in the local waterways.

"So when it came to choosing a racing animal, it had to be racing worms."
