Chinese dart weapon was bought on eBay for $10

A 34-YEAR-OLD has been caught with a dangerous and illegal weapon he purchased on eBay.

Andrew Craig James Irving appeared in Ipswich Magistrates Court this week charged with unlawful possession of weapons.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Jo Colston said Irving had been caught with a Chinese dart weapon on October 23 last year.

Irving told police he purchased the weapon online for about $10.

The court was told that Irving had faced Brisbane Magistrates Court in March for a series of other offences, for which he was sentenced to 18 months in jail, suspended for three years after serving nine months.

Irving's defence lawyer said the weapons charge was supposed to have been dealt with at the same time as the other matters.

As a result, Irving was convicted and not further punished and the item was forfeited.
