'Cheaper fuel in the weeks ahead'
PETROL prices fell for the first time in a month last week, and cheaper fuel is expected in the weeks ahead, an economist says.
The average Australian price of unleaded petrol fell 0.8 of a cent to 145.0 cents a litre in the week to October 23, data from the Australian Institute of Petroleum (AIP) showed on Monday.
The national average metropolitan price fell by 1.3 cents to 144.5 cents a litre, but the regional average price rose 0.2 cents to 146.0 cents a litre.
Commsec economist Savanth Sebastian said petrol prices fell for the first time in a month but the declines were not uniform across Australia.
The average petrol price fell in all cities bar Perth and Hobart during the past week.
