UPDATE 9.45AM: POLICE are investigating after a man was injured in a crash on Chapel Rd Tuesday evening.

Just before 5pm, a black sedan and a four-wheel-drive ute collided while travelling along the road in Wondunna.

Police have confirmed the male drivers of the vehicle were the only people involved in the crash.

The driver of the ute was uninjured, but the sedan driver was trapped for almost an hour when his car landed on its roof.

Wide Bay senior operations supervisor Michael Low said the man received multiple injuries.

"One patient with a fractured arm and other injuries was transported in a stable condition to Hervey Bay Hospital," Mr Low said.

"That was about 5.50."

UPDATE 6.25PM: A MAN has been taken to hospital with leg injuries after a head-on crash on Chapel Rd.

The injured driver was left trapped in a black sedan for almost an hour after his car hit a ute and landed upside-down in an embankment at about 5pm.

Witness Geoff Shaw said he saw the black sedan hit the ute.

"The car on its roof veered on the other side towards the 4X4 which veered away from it, but they both veered back and hit in the middle," Mr Shaw said.

"I'm glad this road is 80, not 100, I'd hate to see this sort of thing if it was 100."

The male driver of the ute walked away from the crash with a bruise on one leg.

It is unknown the extent of the sedan driver's injuries.

EARLIER: FIREFIGHTERS are working to free a driver who is trapped in their black sedan which rolled down an embankment on Chapel Rd in Nikenbah.

Police have closed Chapel Rd between Main St and Madsen Rd while emergency crews work.

Two ambulance are also on the scene.

Emergency crews were called just before 5pm.
