THE Yolngu people were at the forefront of every mind during the annual flag-raising ceremony for NAIDOC Week at Yamanto police headquarters.

Ipswich Superintendent Mark Kelly said this year, NAIDOC Week celebrated the Yolngu people's Bark Petitions to Federal Parliament in 1963.

"Today's celebration was extremely well attended by elders, community members, school students, police and council members from Ipswich City Council, which highlights the positive working relationships, trust and respect which are integral to the NAIDOC philosophy," Supt Kelly said.
