Celebrating diversity of our youth

YOUNG people in Ipswich can join in various events to celebrate National Youth Week 2011.

The Ipswich Council will partner with community agencies to host youth events during National Youth Week 2011, running from April 1 to 10.

Events planned for Ipswich include a youth entertainment night, an art workshop and short film festival.

Youth and Seniors Committee chairwoman Sheila Ireland said National Youth Week was the largest annual celebration for young people in Australia.

“The week is supported by the Department of Communities’ Office for Youth and showcases young people’s talents and achievements, ensures youth participation in planning and developing activities, acknowledges the diversity of young people’s backgrounds and circumstances, and enables young people to express their ideas and be heard,” she said.

“To support National Youth Week, the council will, along with various other stakeholders, host a number of activities for young people across a variety of interests.

"We aim to ensure that activities and events held during National Youth Week encourage all young people, including those at risk or disengaged from mainstream opportunities, to participate.”
