Battle of the Bands comp to rock Ipswich

THE Ipswich CBD is set to be brought to life through the power of rock.

Ipswich City Square will host 20 emerging bands that will compete for the ultimate prize in 2015 Battle of the Bands competition.

Ipswich City Square marketing manager Rachel Vickary said the CBD would host seven hours of live music alongside the ever popular Ipswich Record Fair to give music lovers across the city a top day out.

"We've a really diverse, talented range of bands. The response has been fantastic," she said.

"We'll have everything from rock, pop, rap, metal, folk, alt and hip hop.

"For gamers, there will also be a pinball tournament taking place in the autographed memorabilia store, with prize money up for grabs on the day."

Judges from radio, music, advertising and music media will sit on the panel to choose the winner, who will score a five hour recording session at Studio 188, a music video and publicity in local and music media.

"Each band will perform for 10 minutes, so they'll have about two or three songs each," Ms Vickary said. "We have been wanting to do music in the mall for ages now. When we do people really respond to it."

Ipswich Battle of the Bands will be held in Ipswich City Square on Saturday, July 4 from 11am-6pm and entry is free.
