Car careers down embankment, bursts into flames

A WOMAN has escaped a fiery crash after her car careered down an embankment on a major Sunshine Coast road.

Paramedics and firefighters were called to the crash on the Nicklin Way at Aroona, in the 100kmh zone, about 8.30pm last night.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Service spokeswoman said the vehicle was "well alight" by the time fire crews arrived, but the woman in the vehicle had already freed herself from the car.

Officers spent about an hour extinguishing the blaze and making the scene safe.

Paramedics took the woman, aged in her 20s, to the Sunshine Coast Hospital in a stable condition.

They reported the woman had suffered minor injuries, but she remains in hospital today.

The left-hand lane of the Nicklin Way was closed while emergency crews cleared the scene.
