CanTeen revs up nostalgia

CANTEEN, the Australian organisation for young people living with cancer, will be conducting a Recreation Day at the 2011 Nostalgia Drag Racing event at Willowbank Raceway today.

Up to 30 Queensland members of CanTeen will be try to forget about the stresses of living with cancer for a day of respite, relaxation and peer support during the recreation day.

With the support of Queensland Street Car Magazine, which has donated the tickets to the Nostalgia drags, the CanTeen members will be treated to a full day of action and the chance to see the world’s fastest ’57 Chev, known as The Nitro Express.

Australian and American muscle cars, hot rods, and gassers will also be racing and on display.

To top off the day, the CanTeen members will arrive in style, being transported to and from the event courtesy of the Mustang Owners Club of Queensland.

The touchstone of CanTeen is the belief that young people, through meeting and talking with one another, are better able to cope with the uncertainties of a cancer diagnosis, not to mention that fun makes life worthwhile.
