LETTERS: Call for Neumann to speak on marriage equality

I'M attending the inaugural marriage equality rally in Ipswich this Saturday at midday (QT, Nov 11, P4).

The photo above is from my friend's wedding invitation.

Sadly, because this is a same-sex couple whose love is not yet recognised as a marriage by our Parliament, my friends are forced to travel to New Zealand to marry.

I will be among more than 50 family and friends travelling from south-east Queensland to attend this wedding, even though the grooms, their families and friends all live in south-east Queensland.

Sadly, not everyone will be able to attend their wedding due to budget and time considerations.

This two-night trip will cost more than $1000 for one person for flights and accommodation.

The Member for Blair Shayne Neumann is not representing his electorate on marriage equality. If Mr Neumann fails to represent his constituents on marriage equality, what else is he not representing Blair electorate on?

Mr Neumann must honour the words he spoke as part of his maiden speech: "I am keenly aware of the trust, duty and obligation bestowed upon me by the people of Blair."

He is not honouring his "obligation" to represent constituents, as polls show support for marriage equality is at 72%.

The ALP party platform supports marriage equality, Mr Neumann, why don't you?
