FOR the first time in Ipswich a butcher is taking on the big supermarkets with his own competitive fuel loyalty program.

Owner of Brassall Butchery John Farquhar is offering customers 10 cents off per litre at any fuel station every time they spend $50 at his store.

"You can get a membership card, go to any fuel store, bring your receipt back to us and we'll provide you with a cash rebate," he said.

"Alternatively you can claim it online.

"It's about being able to give back to the community and compete with the big supermarkets."

The seasoned butcher has worked in the Ipswich area for 15 years and has owned Brassall Butchery for three.

He said purchases could be made gradually with customers building up their $50 amount each time they shopped.

"Everyone's excited about it, the reaction has been great," he said.

"Business has picked up over the last couple of days since we announced the deal.

"As a proud family business owner I feel really good being able to give something back to people that might be finding it hard to work with a tight budget in this economy."

Customers can use the fuel rebate to save up to $1 per litre on fuel if they spend enough at the local butchery.

Mr Farquhar said he invited anyone to come to his Brassall Butchery and see how much they could save on their fuel by joining his Fuel for Less loyalty program.

"Come down, meet our friendly staff and try it for yourself," he said.
