Butcher beefs up sales
WHEN Carey Brothers Butchery opened its doors in the 1940s no-one would have thought buying meat would be a simple as clicking a button.
But as other industries have increasingly taken advantage of online sales, Carey Brothers Butchery's Paul Carey said it was time to play catch-up.
"We sold our first online order last week," he said.
"It is the way of the future; it's the way people are buying. We are also on Facebook to which is a great way to get out there."
Mr Carey said the business had a website for the last decade but it wasn't used for sales.
"This is something I have wanted to for a long time. I am excited about it," he said.
Mr Carey said when going online it was important to make sure the product was as user-friendly as possible - not just for the customers but for the business.
"It needs to be so we can change prices and put up photos, if we have to go through the process of calling someone to do it (it's not worth it)," he said.
He said meat could be delivered in relatively short amounts of time, depending on the location.
"The first order we got was ordered at 3pm and think we had it there by about 4pm," Mr Carey said.
Mr Carey said he hoped to further develop the businesses online presence by adding cooking tips and even cooking demonstration videos to the website and ramping up the Facebook page.
"Who knows how people will be doing business in another 68 years," he said.
