Businessman admits possessing 2100 child porn images

A COORABELL businessman, who has entered a guilty plea to possessing more than 2100 child porn images and videos, will be sentenced in the Lismore Local Court later this month.

When Ronald Fidler's solicitor Mr Smart entered guilty pleas to using a carriage service to access child pornography and possessing child abuse material, the prosecution reacted.

Prosecutor Mr Freelander withdrew charges of procuring and disseminating child abuse material, and possessing material intended to breach commonwealth child pornography legislation.

Facts tendered before Lismore Local Court yesterday showed detectives acting on information Fidler was in possession of child pornographic material raided his home on May 6, this year.

After initially declining to answer police when asked if there was child pornography in his house, Fidler finally opened up.

When police found an 80GB external hard drive on the kitchen bench, Fidler admitted it contained a series of child pornography images.

A search by police of all computers, hard drives and computer storage equipment at Fidler's home allegedly uncovered 1586 pornographic images and 663 child abuse videos.

Police allege the children involved in the images and videos were between 18 months and 15-years-old.

On May 7, when Fidler was granted conditional bail he was ordered not to access the internet, to surrender his passport, to report to Byron Bay police three times a week and not to approach any school, preschool or educational facility. Fidler will be sentenced on October 21.
