Son pays tribute to 'tough but fair' Nev Reedy

JUST days before he passed away, Nev Reedy was still giving advice on the business he had helped build from the ground up.

The co-founder of K&R Plumbing passed away on Saturday afternoon, aged 75.

Son Paul, who is CEO of the business, said despite building a prosperous business with eight locations, family man Nev had never changed who he was.

"It didn't matter how rich he became, he still lived in the same house he had for 50 years," Paul said.

"He still drank at the same pub, sat at the same barstool, and was friends with the same people as before he had two cents to rub together.

"Randall (Krause) and Nev couldn't even pay themselves a wage when they started out (in 1979), and it was nothing under 15, 16 hours' work a day trying to make it successful.

"Now they employ 70 people.

"He always took pride that they were, in his words, putting bread and butter on the tables of a lot of different families."

Paul said his father was a tough but fair businessman who always stood by his family.

"He did everything in an honest way, he never wanted to make a dollar out of anyone if it meant hurting anyone or short-changing them.

"He was very sharp til the very end….even on Thursday night he was telling me about a new customer I needed to go and see.

"He didn't show a lot of emotion but you always knew how he felt."
