Burst water main closes one lane

ONE lane of Brisbane St remains closed due to a burst water main in middle of Ipswich.

Workers from Queensland Urban Utilities are using an excavator to expose the section of broken pipe, just down from the Waghorn St intersection.

They are expected to spend most of the day fixing the problem.

The bust pipe caused the road to break up about 2am this morning, with police initially conducting traffic control.

Water supply has been cut to about 25 businesses in the CBD.

Motorists have been advised to avoid using Brisbane Rd between Waghorn St and Ellenborough St if possible.
