Burglary forces family business to close down

THIEVES have forced a family out of business, just one week after they opened their new venture.

Hoppy's Express Takeaway, at Racecourse, had its entire inventory cleaned out between 7pm Tuesday and 7.30am yesterday.

Police are investigating the break and enter, which has forced the family business to cease operations.

Co-owner Donna Hopkinson discovered the empty store yesterday morning, after shutting up shop the night before.

"When I opened the door, the freezers were all (open) and I was like 'Oh my God, someone's left the freezers open', but then I realised," she said.

"I closed up. I'm the only one who has been opening and closing (the store).

"(It) was completely empty. (Someone) had taken everything."

Ms Hopkinson called the police who arrived at the shop around 8am, followed by a forensic team.

She said they were able to dust and find fingerprints.

"They said they got three good prints and they'll be back in contact with me," she said.

Products including soft-drink, frozen fish fillets, bread, burgers and lasagne disappeared from the store.

"We were just trying to find our feet and we were just starting to get really good," Mrs Hopkinson said.

"To put all your hard work and everything into it, just to have it taken away in one day because someone thinks they're entitled to something they haven't worked for... just breaks me."

If anyone has any information, phone police on 131444 or visit policelink.qld.gov.au.
