Bullets out to make amends for thrashing
BASKETBALL: Bullets coach Andrej Lemanis has backed key forward Torrey Craig to overcome an ankle injury to play against his former club Cairns at the Brisbane Convention Centre tonight.
Craig has battled a sore ankle in recent weeks and again aggravated the injury during training at Carina on Thursday.
Lemanis tipped Craig to suit up against the Taipans in a game in which the Bullets are seeking redemption after their last-start performance against Melbourne United.
The Melbourne club thrashed Brisbane 97-59 on Boxing Day, leaving the Bullets with a record of eight wins and 10 losses.
"I'm sure he (Craig) will be fine for Saturday,” said Lemanis, who was more focused on ensuring the Bullets hit back hard against the Taipans.
"We've been playing well in patches and then there are patches when we let things slide both defensively and offensively and we start taking some shortcuts.
"It's about keeping the mindset and having the discipline to do the little things on each and every possession throughout the course of the game.
"It was disappointing the way the fourth quarter (against Melbourne) played out.
"Things went against us a little bit, snowballed out of control, and that's not what we're about, but I think the response has been good this week.
"The way we've approached the last couple of days of practice gives me good heart that we'll come out and play well on Saturday night.
"Cairns is a good team, just as every team's a good team in the league this year, as indicated by the ladder. It's really close.”
