Building momentum key for Ashes, says all-rounder Stoinis

AUSTRALIA must use the rest of the one-day tour of India as a platform for success ahead of a busy summer back home, says all-rounder Marcus Stoinis.

The defeat in Indore on Sunday was the third straight loss on the tour of India and means the five-match series has gone to the hosts.

It was also Australia's 11th ODI loss in a row away from home, with the exception of two washouts, albeit with eight of those defeats coming against South Africa and India.

While the next two clashes, starting with tonight's game in Bangalore, will be dead rubbers, Stoinis believes a form reversal is important ahead of hosting the Ashes.

"Two games left in this series and we've got a big chance to start some momentum for the summer," he said.

"All the focus is on that really for the team."

The 28-year-old doesn't believe the players to find extra spark despite their 50-run loss in Indore confirming the series' result.

"It's still quite a young group," Stoinis said.

"There's a lot of players that have a lot to play for and playing for your country you don't need a lot of motivation."

With Ashton Agar nursing a broken finger in Australia, Adam Zampa is likely to get a call-up to the side with Peter Handscomb keeping his place as wicketkeeper ahead of Matthew Wade.

Australia have been beaten without being thrashed in India, which is giving hope to the team, Stoinis said.

"We're taking encouragement from being in India, playing in their conditions and having three opportunities to win those games," he said.
