Buderim ready for underdog Caloundra

BUDERIM ace John Herriot is confident his team can topple an in-form Caloundra in Sunday's Gr8 Bowls Challenge elimination final.

The mountain-dwellers have already accounted for Caloundra twice in the 10-round series and believe they have the strike power to replicate that success on their way to Sunday's final against Nambour.

"They are a good team and are always hard, but having beaten them this year we are pretty confident," Herriot said.

"We have been playing well and are hopeful of continuing that."

Caloundra peaked at the right time and will be no easy beats for the Buderim crew.

They were the biggest mover of Saturday's final round action and had an impressive 3-0 win over Pacific Paradise.

The win moved Caloundra from fifth place to third booking them a spot in the elimination final.

"They played well and we will be doing our best to beat them," Herriot said.

"We will come out and smile and have a couple of beers."

But a place in the final will not come easily for Buderim, who struggled against ladder-leader Nambour on Saturday in the top of the table clash.

Nambour proved too strong and sent the Buderim bowlers home with their tails between their legs following a 2-1 win.

The victory allowed Nambour to take top spot and afforded them direct entry into the final.

"It was a bit of a hiccup and we had been going very well," Herriot said.

Herriot was full of praise for the Gr8 Bowls Challenge concept after a successful maiden series.

"It has been a wonderful season and means we don't have to travel too far to play bowls," Herriot said.

"The series is terrific," he said.

Action kicks off at Buderim Bowls Club this Sunday, April 10, from 9am.

The final will be played in the afternoon.
