Bromage loses key Labor role as state treasurer

A DECISION by Ipswich Councillor Cheryl Bromage to shift factions has cost her the role of Labor state treasurer.

Cr Bromage, who held the position for the past five years, changed factions from Labor Unity to the party's Right 18 months ago along with other Ipswich Labor politicians.

The voluntary role is traditionally held by Labor Unity.

Banking sector identity and Labor Unity member Jacques Develder was appointed to the role in a meeting of the party's administrative committee last Monday night.

Cr Bromage declined to comment on the treasurer's role yesterday.

A report in Brisbane media suggested Cr Bromage was "ousted" from the role in a show of power by the Left faction.

The report said those in the Left saw the move as an effort to preserve Labor Unity's presence in the leadership.

Cr Bromage led the party's financial recovery during a difficult time for Labor after the 2012 election loss.
