Man to pray for 40 days in front of abortion clinic

A BRISBANE Catholic campaigner is vowing to spend 40 days in quiet prayer in front of a Sunshine Coast abortion clinic, as part of a worldwide prayer campaign to end the "evil" practice.

Franco Bernardini joined the 40 Days of Life movement last year, joining fellow believers in front of a Brisbane clinic to pray for its patients and for the clinic's demise.

"It is basically an organisation made up of people who believe the only way to stop abortion is by praying," he said.

"We don't point fingers. We don't believe people are evil."

Mr Bernardini is one of four contingents to lead the American anti-abortion group's fight in Australia.

The other three will be maintaining a presence at clinics in Brisbane, Melbourne and Adelaide from September 25 to November 3.

For Mr Bernardini, his stints will last 12 hours a day.

40 Days of Life claims to have more than 500,000 members whose prayers have shut down 40 clinics worldwide.

Mr Bernardini said he would not confront or harass anyone using the Coast clinic, instead choosing to be solemn in his hope to an end to abortion worldwide.

"We are not there to seek attention," he said.

"We are there to pray."
