Brie Larson's gesture for sexual assault victims at Oscars

BRIE Larson hugged all of the 50 sexual assault victims from Lady GaGa's 'Til It Happens To You' Oscars performance.

The 'Born This Way' singer was joined on stage by a number of victims of abuse as she performed her Academy Award-nominated song from the rape documentary 'The Hunting Ground' at the ceremony on Sunday (28.02.16) night and Best Actress winner Brie gave each brave person a cuddle as they left the stage.

While Brie showed her support at the Dolby theatre, a number of stars took to Twitter to praise the performance of Lady Gaga - who was also a victim of sexual assault when she was just 19.

Popstar Kesha - who accused her producer Dr Luke of sexually abusing her - thanked Gaga for speaking out and said it was "very close to [her] heart".

After the emotional performance, she wrote: "thank u @ladygaga and VP @joebiden for bringing attention to sexual assault at the oscars. it hit very close to my heart for obvious reasons (sic)"

Tyra Banks said: "You continue to give me chills @ladygaga. #Oscars My love goes out to all who have been sexually assaulted. #NotYourFault (sic)"

And actress Lindsay Lohan added: "@ladygaga beautiful performance #survivetogether #prayforchildren (sic)"

Meanwhile, singer Demi Lovato said: "If this song wins my heart won't be able to take it (sic)"

Despite the outpouring of support for Gaga and 'Til It Happens To You', the Best Original Song Oscar went to Jimmy Napes and Sam Smith for 'Writing's On the Wall' from 'Spectre'.

Before the singer took to the stage, US Vice President Joe Biden encouraged attendees to pledge on the website ItsOnUs.org in support of victims of abuse.

He said: "Take the pledge. A pledge that says I will intervene in situations when consent has not or cannot be given. Let's change the culture. We must and we can change the culture so that no abused woman or man like the survivors you will see tonight ever have to ask themselves 'what did I do?' They did nothing wrong. I really mean this."
