Brian's election signs defaced by grub

THE LOW life who defaced the election signs of Division 5 candidate Brian Scott won't deter the Ipswich businessman from continuing his campaign.

Mr Scott said he was "devastated" by the disgraceful pornographic spray painting of two banners and five corflutes.

"About 2pm on Thursday afternoon I got a call from council saying some of my signs had been pornographically graffitied at Karalee.

"I raced out there and saw the main one, which was a big banner, and I took it down straight away because I was embarrassed for people to see it.

"As I travelled around I saw that more of my corflutes had been done the same way.

"So I went and took them down.

"It was devastating for me. It had to be some low-life that did it.

"I have taken the signs down today."

Mr Scott said one of the defaced signs was in front of a primary school.

"That doesn't say much for the quality of the person when you have got four and five-year-olds coming out and seeing pornographic displays," he said.

"I have taken them down too."

Mr Scott has cleaned the signs down but said it would cost $700 to replace them, money that he had not budgeted for.

"My campaign is being run by me, myself and I," he said.

"I haven't got enough money to buy new signs.

"There isn't enough time, so I have cleaned them up the best I can.

"They are still a bit grotty so I am going to put a sticker over them and say 'I am still here'.

"In front of the school I have put a new one up because I don't want to have that style of thing for kids to see."

Mr Scott said he always consulted with the community before putting his signs up.

"What's annoying as well is that they have gone into people's property and pulled them down and spray painted them," he said.

"So they are trespassing as well.

"With every one of my signs that I put up I stop and talk to the people and explain what I stand for with regards to the community.

"Then I put a sign up."

Mr Scott is running on a platform of community, parks and roads. He said election signs were also defaced in 2012.

"The four candidates that ran in the last election had our signs burned, sprayed and taken.

"I don't know if it is a fringe element, but at the election even Heather Morrow had her signs destroyed as well. It is disappointing for me, but it is also disappointing for the general public who have to witness it."
