Back to the future for Bremer High's class of '64
FOR many of the Bremer High class of '64, the upcoming 50-year reunion will be the first time they've seen their old classmates since graduation.
Former school captains Sandra Wallace and Trevor Duffie said many members of the once close-knit cohort had not kept in touch.
"I'm looking forward to catching up with everyone," Mrs Wallace said.
"So far we have about 50 people coming but we're looking for more.
"It's interesting that 50 years ago, Year 8 was introduced to Bremer High, and now Year 7 is moving up."
Reunion organiser Brad Ahern said he was looking forward to reminiscing with old class mates.
"You don't go thinking back very often, it's hard to believe we're so old," he laughed.
"High school was great, we really enjoyed it.
"Bremer was only three years old when we were in school and it's changed a lot since then.
Mr Ahern said although many things had changed at Bremer, the quality teaching remained the same.
"I had a great science teacher, Ivan Barton, who was also the founder of the Bremer Hockey Club," he said.
"He inspired me to become a science teacher myself."
Mr Ahern said the school achieved well during his time and had even produced sporting champions who competed in the 1964 Olympics and played for the Socceroos.
The class of '64 reunion will be held at Ipswich RSL Services Club on Saturday, November 8, from 6.30pm. For more information contact Brad Ahern on 0488 020 082 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
