UPDATE: Child, 3, airlifted after near drowning near Gympie

UPDATE:

POLICE and medical officers have confirmed a 3-year-old boy was the near drowning victim airlifted from a Gunalda cabin and camping park yesterday.

A Gympie police spokesman said the young child was "reportedly submerged in water for a period of time".

Paramedics were called to Windsong Cabins on the corner of Balkin St and the Bruce Hwy about 5pm, and later police attended the scene at 5.45pm where they reportedly spoke to the child's mother.

The boy was airlifted to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition and released from hospital last night, a Lifeflight spokeswoman said.

EARLIER:

EMERGENCY crews were on the scene of what appeared to be a near drowning in a pool near Gympie on Wednesday night.

Ambulance crews were called to the scene at Windsong Cabins at Gunalda, 20 minutes north of Gympie on the Bruce Highway, about 5pm to attend a reported "drowning".

It is believed that on arrival at the scene Queensland Police were notified.

A QAS spokesman said the QPS had been dispatched to the scene.

The police are still on their way. No details about the reported victim have yet become available.

The QPS spokesman said they had been called to assist the QAS at the address in a "drowning matter".
