Breakers to defend their crown

THE New Zealand Breakers will defend their iiNet Championship crown after all, defeating the Townsville Crocodiles 97-80 at Vector Arena to progress to next week's Grand Final series.

After dropping the series opener at home for the second straight year, the titleholders kept their chances alive with a road victory and returned to Auckland to keep their season alive.

They achieved that on the back of third-quarter run and a triumphant march down the stretch that gave their challengers little chance.

"We haven't done the job yet," said Breakers coach Andrej Lemanis. 'We still want to go out and win this championship.

"Last year, there was a bit more pressure on the group. We finished on top and had never been to a Grand Final, so losing Game 1 and still finding a way through the final series was emotional.
