Boy's best friend is back
THEIR flood-affected home is yet to be fixed, but the Butler family is complete again after their lost dog returned home.
Young labrador Murphy disappeared on Sunday night, just days after the family returned to their flooded Churchill home to begin the clean-up. The Butlers' home was also badly flooded in 2011, so the clean-up routine was all too familiar.
Tammie Butler said the family, including two-year-old Liam, struggled to cope with Murphy's disappearance.
Ms Butler said Liam, who shares a special bond with Murphy, had wandered the house calling and whistling for him.
Understandably, they were ecstatic when Murphy came home on Tuesday, after a nearby resident, who found the wandering dog, answered the family's appeal in The Queensland Times.
"It feels like our whole family dynamic is back to normal," Ms Butler said.
"Thankfully someone had taken him in and called us as soon as they read the story.
"We're very happy he's home."
Ms Butler said this year's flooding had been less severe at their property.
She said floodwater reached a peak of about 30cm through their home this year, compared to swamping most of their ground-level rooms in 2011.
The family bought Murphy as a pup last year after they decided to resettle in their repaired home.
